Let The Dog Eat Cake

Sweet thoughts, for a sweet birthday party.

One thing the 2020 pandemic has taught me is to stop and celebrate the good things in life.  A dog’s birthday is worthy of cake and good wishes, especially when it is his 3rd birthday.  Counting in dog years, that would make him 21, let the dog eat cake.

The cake I made for Louie’s birthday is a simple carrot peanut butter.   I used all dog approved ingredients.  Even though the ingredients could be used for a human cake, it wouldn’t taste good.  Take a look, I’d love to know your thoughts.

Louie’s Birthday Cake Recipe

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • Yogurt for the topping

Instructions

Start with preheating the  oven to 350 degrees

Next, grease an 8″ round cake pan. I used a heart-shaped pan I found on Amazon

Then, in a bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda.  Add the egg, peanut butter, oil, carrots, and honey.

Mix all the ingredients until combined.

Pour batter into a prepared pan and bake for about 18 -20  minutes.

Allow time to cool. Turn out the cake onto a plate.

I used yogurt and berries to top the cake.  Another topping is peanut butter with sliced bananas on the top.

When thinking about dogs and how they fit in our lives I am reminded of this quote.

“Dogs’ lives are too short. Their only fault, really.”

– Agnes Sligh Turnbull

Some may consider making a cake for a dog as an unnecessary activity.  I say, “Let the dog eat cake!”  Celebrate the goodness you see in life, your dog will thank you.
